1 Admin: Applicants should have experience organising either community initiatives, food solidarity groups, or community gardens, be able to communicate with funders, issue payments to staff, keep accounts, and submitting to HMRC/Companies House. See below for more position details.

2 Site Maintenance: Applicants must have experience growing food, ideally experience working on urban farms in collaboration with other growers and the community. Applicants should have experience working with the public and people from vulnerable backgrounds. See below for more position details.

3 Bicycle Couriers: Applicants should be confident on a bike with an attached trailer, and will be expected to communicate consistently and clearly with donation and recipient partners, PGS site maintenance staff, and PGS administrators.

Admin Position Details: 9 hours per week for 10 months in 2026, 16 hours per week for 10 months in 2027. £18p/hour.

Administrators will be accountable for the planning of all PGS initiatives, which include but is not be limited to;

  • managing finances and budgeting,

  • applying for funding,

  • communicating with funders,

  • liaising with partner organisations, 

  • purchasing and organising the delivery of materials, 

  • organising work schedules with representative staff members from site maintenance, builders, education, and market day,

  • communicating with raised bed recipients,

  • fielding complaints or concerns from partner organisations, recipients, and staff through PGS email,

  • managing safeguarding and conflict/incident resolution.

Site Maintenance Position Details: 10 hrs per week for 7 months in 2026, 12 hrs per week for 8 months in 2027. £18 p/hour.

Site maintenance staff will be accountable for the management of all PGS growing sites. This will include but not be limited to;

  • collaboration with recipient organisations for annual planting programs,

  • running open gardening sessions for members of the community,

  • soil conditioning,

  • seed germination,

  • planting out,

  • garden maintenance,

  • harvesting,

  • communication with courier staff for pickups,

  • record keeping of production,

  • seed saving,

  • communication with PGS admin regarding stock and material purchases.

Bicycle Courier Position Details: 14 hours per week for 5 months in 2026 and 2027 split between three couriers. £18 p/hour.

Couriers will be accountable for the uplift and drop off of donated fruit and veg. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to;

  • communicating with PGS admin,

  • communication with donation partners,

  • communication with recipient organisations,

  • pickups from donor sites,

  • drop-offs at recipient sites,

  • relaying any concerns from partners to PGS admin.

Couriers will be offered a bike tune up by Zutto Bikes ahead of the start of their runs. Couriers will be asked to wear PPE during their working hours, ride along designated bike paths whenever possible, and follow bike road rules. PGS will have insurance in place for courier work. Couriers will always travel in teams of two. There will be three couriers hired to account for absences due to holidays and/or other work obligations.

PGS admin will hold in person conversations with select applicants on March 24th, with work commencing April 1st for new admin and site maintenance hires, and mid May for couriers.
